Elizabeth Isela Szekeresh is a playwright, actor, producer, and filmmaker from Huntington Beach, California.  She received a B.A. in Women’s Studies with an emphasis in Chicana Studies from the University of California, Davis. 

Elizabeth is both a founding member and the Managing Director of Breath Of Fire Latina Ensemble.  She has been part of many Latina theater and film collectives. Currently as a co-founding member of the performance group Slip of the Tongue (SOTT). As part of Slip of the Tongue, her work is published in the Chicana/Latina Journal (Tiffany A. Lopez Ph.D, Editor).

Elizabeth wrote her solo piece When Song Leaders Go Bad! and has performed it nationally including South Coast Repertory’s SCRamble, UCR Medical Narratives Conference, MALCS 2011 Conference, Washington & Lee University, ATHE panel, Highways Performance Space, and Breath of Fire Latina Theater Ensemble

Elizabeth is a co-writer of The 'Mexican' OC:  Contributions and Triumphs of the Mexican American Community a 2005 California Story Fund Grant through the California Council of Humanities.  Her other solo performance pieces include Paprika Chica and Paper-Plastic Clothes.

She was an Associate Producer of  the World Premiere Digging up the Dirt written and directed by Cherríe Moraga.  Elizabeth was a Producer of Angel of the Desert written by Janine Salinas as part of the South Coast Repertory Studio Series and W.A.C. Iraq written by Mel Nievas. She was the Assistant Director for 14 written by Jose Casas.  Elizabeth has also enjoyed time in the tech booth for multiple productions. Additionally
her short film It’s a Pleasure has been screened nationally and in Belize.  

* Breath of Fire Latina Ensemble is a volunteer run 501(c)3 nonprofit which aims to support the work and enrich the lives of Latinas in the performing arts. www.breathoffire.org
